Today in our making manga series we are going to talk a little about creating a storyboard. This process has a few terms for it, including a “name.” I went to art school and took a storyboarding class and I write novels so I know how to write a story. When writing the dialogue and story information for the grydscaen graphic novel – volume 1, I initially did a storyboard for the first 6 chapters. I started out just sketching. Mapping…..
So in today’s making manga we are going to talk about tools. But before that I wanted to talk Doujinshi vs Manga. In Japan to be a mangaka you need to be published in a magazine, a serial magazine like the famous Shonen Jump. You can enter a contest, get feedback, get picked up, get an editor, draw your manga and get noticed, maybe even if you are popular get an anime. Doujinshi is amateur art of maybe someone else’s…..
For our making manga series today, we are talking about character pairing and sketching. One of the first drawings for the manga graphic noise was an image of Shiro Ijima, the best selling scifi author of the Fissure series and the indie manga artist Noiz with his manga Disaster Code (on the left). Before we could think about a cover or the character sketches we had to get the basic idea down for Shiro and Noiz. I wanted Shiro to…..
So the United Nations tribunal ruled in favor of the Philippines regarding a set of contested islands in the South China sea. I guess this irritated China which said the tribunal arbitration council had no jurisdiction to enforce the ruling. The Philippines gave a soft response to the ruling which may have also been political due to a recent change in government power. The islands which may be rich in resources are in a contentious area which China claims is…..
So more into our making manga series. Today we talk about Branding. Every artist, writer or creative needs a brand. This can be related to your artwork, your music, the thing you produce, your novel. But you have to have a stamp for yourself that distinguishes you from someone else. It may be your art style, your subject matter be it fiction, science fiction, paranormal, yaoi or romance. Since I started off writing cyberpunk hard science fiction with the grydscaen…..
In the novel and manga creation process one of the things that you have to do at the outset is world building. I just started writing chapter 4 of the novel “graphic noise” which will also be turned into a manga. The two main characters are Shiro Ijima, the best selling scifi author and the other character is Noiz, the manga artist. The story is set in Manhattan in the present. Usually I write scifi set in a post-apocalyptic future,…..
This is Rom from the Packrat Sprawl. I am on my way to a data sale at Hack in a few minutes to check out the job board there. I need to get myself another gig. Anj lets me go out every now and then even though I am on a short leash from the Processing Centre. I wanted to describe Hack to you a little bit so you can get a feel for the place. Hack is a tech…..
So I am working on a new manga and novel called “graphic noise” which is a yaoi manga about an indie manga artist and a best selling science fiction author who meet at AnimeFest, a comic convention. The story is set in New York City and will as much explore the particular culture of Manhattan like the subway, bike messengers, Central Park, Grand Central Station and the Javitz Convention Center as it will be a story about two artists getting…..
Anime is one of my favorite things. I have been watching anime since I was young. The funny thing is that you can see anime when you are young and it has no effect on you or you can watch it and become an avid fan. I grew up with such shows as Akira, Robotech, Voltron, Ghost in the Shell, Gundam, Gatchaman, Transformers, Dungeons and Dragons. I like anime that is art driven and plot driven. Things like the Simpsons or…..
I was asked by a friend I used to work with in the Tech industry to write a Non Fiction novel about my story in college and beyond. At first I was thinking that no one would possibly want to read that story and how could my story help others. I had already written grydscaen: utopia which has some parallels to my experiences in college set in a fictional backdrop so why would I need to write another story. My…..
