The grydscaen series provides an outlet for me to give back to society. Having recently released the ebook versions of “A Storm’s Coming” and the sequel “Rogue,” I see this as a movement forward in my mission. grydscaen allows me to support LGBT homeless youth services and young adult self esteem. These two stories in particular which focus on the teen Rom, the 16 year old LGBT youth living on the streets show the struggles of young people to be heard and to find their place in society. Rom has it hard but he never gives up and fights for his rights in the harsh environment of the Echelons in Haven 15.
Since these two ebooks are part of the grydscaen series, they were made available separately from the published works. This was to make them more readily available to the community. I still need to do extra marketing and socialization of the stories to get them out there more. In that vein I am still learning how to do marketing but that will come in time.
grydscaen is a mission of mine and it is important that it get out there. When I was a young 16 year old Freshman in college I did not have a lot of books to look to for self esteem. Sure there were SciFi books but there was little with LGBT characters or asexual characters. Today, these things are more available. grydscaen has trans, gay, bi and asexual characters that have large parts in the story. I created them to ensure that they were visible since I did not have characters like that to look to in college. grydscaen was filling a void and I wanted to ensure that young adults had roll models that they could look up to.
Sure Rom has a harsh life but other characters like Lino Dejarre, the son of the Viceroy who is from the City and works at the Psi Faction is a character that has power and needs to learn how to handle that power to be successful. On top of that as the lead of grydscaen he is a gay male and he sometimes has to wrestle with that fact as well. Faid Callen on the other hand from the lower class Echelons is a host and uses his good looks as a weapon. And even though he has a hard road, he is the leader of the Packrat hackers which is also a position of power.
I show these characters, Rom, Faid and Lino to show that there are different sides of power but each character has to grow into their position and learn how to handle the power they have. This is what they learn through the series including understanding themselves and the world they live in. grydscaen shows these small steps for these young adults and how they face life with different odds and obstacles trying to get ahead.
grydscaen lets me do this. All proceeds from the giveaways of “A Storm’s Coming” and the “Rogue” ebooks will go to supporting LGBT youth services.
