So we are working on the novel grydscaen: dissonance right now getting it published. The book is currently in production then we are going to India for business. After I come back we will be working on the manga illustrations for “graphic noise” and “Rogue” so that means we will not be writing for a while. But even though we will focus on drawing I still want to be thinking about writing.
I currently have three books that are partially written. They are “trans-sub-consternation” with a transgender protagonist then there is “Moonchilde” which takes place on a space colony with a 14 year old protagonist, and also “Grace of Blood” which is a vampire story. There is also the typing of “Dominations and Thrones” that has to happen but that book is completed and just needs to be typed.
So those three projects are half written and might just become novellas if I end up ending them short. If so they will be published on Amazon but I still have to determine what I am doing with them. For now they stay on the back burner.
But what about writing while we are working on the two manga? Well, I have a new thing brewing in my mind. I used to draw dragons and elves back when I was in high school when I was not drawing spacecraft and jet fighters. So I was thinking, what about delving into the realm of high fantasy ripe with elves and mages and magic systems. I would also include thieves guilds and priests as well as dark elves and maybe an evil king. I looked up fantasy tropes today on Google and I think I would be better to write a dark fantasy book instead of heroic fantasy or a high fantasy instead.
I have about a few chapters of a high fantasy written if I could find it. I stored away the few typed pages when I moved so I may have lost it. It included a character called The Valkyris if I remember correctly and she was the ruler of a group of humanoids who were magic users. I need to search my apartment and see if I can find that portion of story.
Recently I have been watching all things Medieval on DVD that I have in my collection. I just went on a movie spree and watching everything from Robin Hood to Joan of Arc to Martin Luther to priests banishing demons. I don’t know why I got on that trip suddenly. It might have something to do with me going on my India trip because I am a little nervous. I have also been having wild dreams which I think are caused by my anxiety about the trip.
But back to High Fantasy. Since Fantasy needs to have a magic system, I would need to define that and the guilds and powers the mages and priests have. This would be a whole world building exercise. I think the problem right now I have with “Moonchilde” is that I wrote up to a point and now I have to make the protagonist and architect terraforming the moon and trying to avenge his parent’s death or I make him a mobile frame pilot due to the warring of the terraforming guilds. I have not decided what to do on that so I am at writer’s block on that novel. Regarding the vampire story “Grace of Blood,” I have a little more of an outline along with about 80 pages written but it again is somewhere in a box which was packed away when I moved and I would need to read it all again the manuscript to determine where the plot is going. I like the story enough I just stopped when I moved.
Regarding the world building for the high fantasy story I might be able to do a lot of that on the plane when I take the long flight to India. Maybe that is what I will do to keep me busy and not to get bored. I am taking a small notebook with me on the plane so I can write my notes there. I was also going to start watching Lord of the Rings before I have to go on my trip and I will take the DragonLance books with me on the plane to read. So this will get me into the high fantasy realm. This will be good research. I like Raistlin from DragonLance, always did so he is a good evil mage type character.
But if I start writing a high fantasy I want it to be completely new. If I find my story which I tucked away which had a magic system in the few pages I might be able to just pick up with that. The characters in that story if I remember correctly were in court and there was a magic system based somehow on your gender. There was a character that was male who was using the magic system of the females like his sister and it somehow caused his hair to change colour when he acted like a female. So I guess I was writing transgender stuff in high school. Go figure.
This high fantasy thing will also need a name. Usually when I start writing something there is a name for it. The name has not come to me yet so I guess it is not yet time to write it. We can plan and hopefully the name will come to me. grydscaen: dissonance and “Grace of Blood” came to me out of the blue. “Moonchilde” was a character that I toyed with in college who played the flute. The character in the story does not actually play the flute in the text as of this stage but he will to keep with the original idea so it is coming.
So if I do get into this high fantasy thing this month, planning the world and the magic system I will have a lot of world building to do. I am sort of looking forward to it actually and it will keep me busy on the plane.
So I would have elves in this story and mages and men. Now I don’t know about dwarves. I did an ensemble cast for grydscaen but I am not wanting to do a huge band of characters. Maybe focus on thieves and some type of quest to stop the Valkryis from doing something. I will have to plan all this out I guess. There would be court scenes and a medieval like setting. I would have to also design a magic system. So much to do. I will have to look up how to design that. If I do start this project then I will want to follow it on the blog. Wish me luck. Seems like we are starting a new project soon.
For right now we are calling this fantasy thing “The Seer of Grace and Fire” – the name just came to me right now. So this means this is a thing actually. So as we work on dissonance, get some marketing done and work on trying to get noticed as we spend slews worth of money we will work on this new thing. This is how it starts. We get a flash of divine insistence in a title and we go from there.
