I created a profile at NaNoWriMo 2016 and I will be participating in the competition by writing a 50,000 word novel in the Month of November. The writing starts on November 1. Will be writing Book 2 of the dark fantasy trilogy The Seer of Grace and Fire. Had to make up a book synopsis and this is what we have so far for Book 2:
“Timorn and Ethesian with the noble townfolks thwarted the Valkyris’s attack on Kannon at DarkFall saving the city from imminent destruction. But all is not well. The mage Dalannin, tasked by the Valkyris is still trying to find a way to conquer Kannon and eventually all of the Jahnae Faerie kingdom of Itheria. With time on his hands now that DarkFall has passed, Dalannin travels to Akrisia, the home of the high elves which he abandoned 17 years ago to support the Valkyris on that terrible night of DarkFall when all the male Faerie newborns were killed. He journeys to the Northern mountains where the dragons reign. What evil will he conjure up on his quest to destroy King Ailon’s legacy? Timorn is now on the throne but he is bothered by Ethesian’s persistence that something is not right. Dissention is growing within the ranks of his small party of travelers and Ethesian’s stubborn will at court has not gone unnoticed by their mother Eanna, the First Consort. Follow along as the team takes its next step to repair the town from the battle at DarkFall and for Timorn to find his way as the would-be King, all the while Dalannin plots their destruction.”
So I guess that is what we are supposed to write about.
I am a total “pantser” it is called which means “flying by the seat of your pants” without an outline or any planning. I just created a book synopsis in 5 minutes. Lets me know I can just start winging it when November 1 hits.
I have only done NaNo one other time, I think it was in 2005 but I can’t remember. I know I won it that time but mostly it was short stories. This time I will be writing my property with my characters and world. Since I just finished Book 1 we are right on the heels to start book 2. The beta is in chapter 5 of Book 1 right now and the work is going smoothly. I inquired about an editor as well and think I will be taking advantage of a good copyedit after the initial evaluation. That is two new things that we are doing in November. Now I will not be turning in the book to the publisher until sometime in 2017 once the beta gets through with the whole thing for Book 1 but I will be diligently working hard, as well as going alcohol free and trying to lose 15 pounds all before the end of the year. Lots of things going on at the same time, including work and life but we are jazzed to start this NaNo this time around. Before I was just playing in it. Now I am going for serious.
I got the start of the manuscript formatted just waiting for the words after the two that are there that read “Chapter 1.” For now we are just getting ready. Now that I have a book summary I also have a place to go. And we get to have more details about dragons in this volume since Dalannin is going to the Northern mountains of Akrisia where the dragons rule. This means there are demon riders and half dragons. Not thinking they are shifters (tired of shifters) never really been into that although grydscaen does have a changeling in Book 6 and Nathaneal can change his appearance into a Jannai which he does a few times in the process of the entire story.
Demon riders and half dragons who look like people, sounds interesting. The elves in Akrisia must know something about them since only few high elves can train baby dragons. This makes for an interesting plot twist and some new characters potentially. Well I guess now I have to think up names again. So much for making more work for myself.
NaNo off we go. Wish me luck that I can rise to the challenge of 50,000K words in 30 days. I think I can do that. Well, at least I am going to try. Happy NaNo everyone.
